Here are some common questions about APPA.
Using APPA in schools
Who is APPA for?
The APPA system is aimed at all children in school. It is a pro-active tool enabling those in authority to spot the children who are about to fail to thrive before they start displaying symptoms.
What age group is APPA suitable for?
APPA has been designed for secondary schools so the age group is 12 – 18. Children of 11 can use it but may require some input from guidance teachers.
Is it purely a self-help tool, or does it "report" to us in some way in the expectation that we will be able to plan actions in school?
The app is part of a system that provides schools with the ability to hear the voice of the young person without interference from adults. There is a portal that the SENCO/Guidance staff can log into that carries the reports that the young people have generated.
Will SENCO/Guidance be able to see the answers the young people give?
No. All answers remain private to the young person. All data is owned by the young person and we adhere fully to the GDPR guidelines and 5 Rights of young people.
What platforms is the app available on?
It is available in most internet browsers as a Webapp, an Android app and an iOS app. This means the app will work on any tablet, device or computer with access to the internet.
What reports are available?
There is a modified SHANARRI report available which has replaced the 8 indicators with 40 Sub-constructs. This means that the report is more precise in nature and allows guidance to generate targeted interventions. There is also a Resilience Matrix report. This is a quick snapshot of the level of resilience a young person has in relation to the environmental risk they live in.
Is it something that we buy and then offer to students, or do they subscribe themselves?
The school will purchase the subscription and can use the app in the PHSE/PSE class.
What is the cost of the system?
The cost of the app is approximately £1.99 per pupil per year. This provide a school with unlimited use throughout the school year which equates to 3 or 4 assessments. For more information on pricing have a look at our products page.
Is there a whole school price?
Yes, where the school is large APPA has capped the cost at £2100 per year for a school.
